Rhetts Birth Story was pretty uneventful, pretty planned, and pretty awesome. After having 2 previous C-Sections with the girls, Rhett's was most definitely planned as well. We were scheduled for a 9:30am surgery on Jan. 11th. We headed into the hospital and got there just a little after 8am. They got me settled into my gorgeous hospital gown and the most comfortable bed (insert sarcasm here). About 9:45ish they walked me back to the OR where I got my spinal and all the other preparations done that come with surgery. They let Mike come in, and then they got started. Our little man was then born at 10:15am. They asked us for his name..and at that time, we seriously had no idea. This was our first baby walking into the hospital that didnt have a name. We had a few names on our list..but were still very unsure of what his name would be.
About 11:30am they wheeled me back to a little recovery room where we got to enjoy some alone time with our little man. It was then and there that we officially decided on his name to be Rhett. Mike was writing down all our names on his cell phone so we could compare...and that one just felt right to us. After spending a little time in recovery, they wheeled me into the Birth Unit (aka post partum). They got me all settled in there and not too long after my mom was able to bring the girls to meet their little brother. The girls instantly fell in love with him complete with lots of kisses and a "awwww he so cute" from Addison.
I am nursing Rhett and he thankfully is doing quite well. He has had no issues and has been a very easy baby to nurse....thank goodnes b/c for those of you who dont know me, I HATE nursing. I am one of those that I just do not enjoy it. Judge me if you want, but I hate it. I just do it b/c I know its good for baby and hey!? Its kind of like a weight loss program so that gives me a little motivation as well....anyhow....
My doctor originally told me that I would be staying there until Saturday. But that was just not going to work for me...Mike and I have spent enough time in hospitals (work related reasons of course). I informed him that I would most definitely be ready to go home by Friday. The doctor challenged me and said that if I was up and walking everyday after each meal, passing gas, and had good pain control that I would be able to go. Well Friday rolled around and I was ready to GO! I had won and I was discharged by 11am on Friday, January 13th.
It was a VERY snowy and cold day. I mean blizzard conditions....out of all the days, this day was the worst day --- weather wise--- this winter that we had seen. The nurses were all questioning me if I really wanted to go home in this kind of weather....I said YES! We were out of there by 11:30am.
We had a very pleasant stay at the hospital. The hospital staff were all excellent. The surgery was a breeze. And our baby boy is just perfect! Rhett was a popular baby in the birthing unit...he had the most hair out of all the babies, the nurses enjoyed giving him his first bath complete with a mo-hawk do at the end. He also got to meet a little Miss Scarlett in the nursery (if you are a Gone With the Wind Fan, you should find this absolutely adorable). We love our little man and he lready has us wrapped around his little finger....including his older sisters.
